Lipid sensing by gut CD1d calibrates peripheral serotonin release

چکیده

Abstract The crosstalk between the immune and neuroendocrine system is critical for intestinal homeostasis gut-brain communications. However, it remains unclear how cells participate in gut sensation of hormones release response to environmental cues, such as self microbial lipids. We show here that lipid-mediated engagement invariant natural killer T (iNKT) with enterochromaffin (EC) cells, a subset epithelial promotes peripheral serotonin (5-HT) via CD1d-dependent manner, regulating motility hemostasis. CD1d ligation on EC transduces reverse signal restrains potassium conductance, leading calcium influx 5-HT secretion. Together, we by coupling iNKT chemosensory perceive lipid antigens calibrate release, modulating systemic physiology.

Peripheral serotonin enhances lipid metabolism by accelerating bile acid turnover.

Serotonin is synthesized by two distinct tryptophan hydroxylases, one in the brain and one in the periphery. The latter is known to be unable to cross the blood-brain barrier. These two serotonin systems have apparently independent functions, although the functions of peripheral serotonin have yet to be fully elucidated. In this study, we have investigated the physiological effect of peripheral...

CD1d‐mediated lipid presentation by CD11c+ cells regulates intestinal homeostasis

Intestinal homeostasis relies on a continuous dialogue between the commensal bacteria and the immune system. Natural killer T (NKT) cells, which recognize CD1d-restricted microbial lipids and self-lipids, contribute to the regulation of mucosal immunity, yet the mechanisms underlying their functions remain poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that NKT cells respond to intestinal lipids and C...

A tachykinin-like neuroendocrine signalling axis couples central serotonin action and nutrient sensing with peripheral lipid metabolism

Serotonin, a central neuromodulator with ancient ties to feeding and metabolism, is a major driver of body fat loss. However, mechanisms by which central serotonin action leads to fat loss remain unknown. Here, we report that the FLP-7 neuropeptide and its cognate receptor, NPR-22, function as the ligand-receptor pair that defines the neuroendocrine axis of serotonergic body fat loss in Caenorh...

Acupuncture causes serotonin release by mast cells.

Mast cells (MCs) are important object in experimental acupuncture due to their putative involvement in local reactions to needling. In the rat, they are shown to contain in their granules, among other tissue mediators, serotonin, also called 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). The aim of this study is to examine the normal distribution of 5-HT-containing MCs in soft tissues of Zusanli (ST36) acupunctur...

Pheromone-sensing neurons regulate peripheral lipid metabolism in Caenorhabditis elegans

It is now established that the central nervous system plays an important role in regulating whole body metabolism and energy balance. However, the extent to which sensory systems relay environmental information to modulate metabolic events in peripheral tissues has remained poorly understood. In addition, it has been challenging to map the molecular mechanisms underlying discrete sensory modali...
